NEW PROGRAM!

The newly revised 2018 Skate Canada’s CanPowerSkate program is Canada’s only nationally regulated NCCP Instructional Stream power skating program, taught by NCCP trained and certified coaches. CanPowerSkate is designed to focus on 3 fundamental areas – Balance, Control & Agility for the development and enhancement of 15 foundational skating skills specific to hockey. The program enables the opportunity to focus on skating skills outside of the game or practice and is designed to allow flexibility for progression or increased intensity as needed. Participants are assessed on a continuum of development that will indicate skills in an early, moderate or advanced stage of development. Our focus is on developing proper skating technique and helping hockey players take his or her game to the next level!

*This is not a “learn-to-skate” program. This program is geared for Novice, Atom, PeeWee, Bantam & Midget level hockey players. All CanPowerSkate skaters should have achieved STAGE 4 of the CanSkate Program or equivalent (CanHockey-PrePower or IP, Tykes or Pre-Novice Hockey) prior to registering for CanPowerSkate Program.

ADDENDUM SEPTEMBER 10th:

*Due to low registration numbers this group has been consolidated to join the CanSkate Session as an entity. This does not affect the curriculum as CanHockey-Prepower was a modified CanSkate program. Once skaters have achieved Stage 4 they will have the option to either move on to the CanPowerSkate program or remain in CanSkate for the final two stages 5/6. Skaters in this CanHockey Group are still encouraged to wear complete hockey attire.

This program is designed to address the development of skating skills specifically for skaters preparing for a hockey program. This is a customized “Learn-to-Skate” program which offers instruction for beginners or those looking to improve their basic skating skills for hockey. A complete series of Balance, Control & Agility Skills taught in 4 stages of learning in a nationally-tested and proven curriculum and instruction method that guarantees skaters success in developing stronger basic skills and faster skater development. Lessons are provided by NCCP registered and certified coaches in group format.

Skaters are required to wear hockey skates and a CSA approved hockey helmet with a face mask. Full hockey equipment is permitted and highly recommended.

Skaters must be able to skate without assistance (ie. skate width of the ice and get up on their own) to participate in this program; Ideal for skaters at CanSkate level 1-4, IP, Tykes or PreNovice hockey. Skaters who have never skated before or who are not confident with their balance on the ice (ie. unable to skate without assistance or get up on their own) should register for the PreCanSkate program.
